MIGUEL TORRES
January 29th, 2012 09:17 PM MSTDeerfield Beach, Fla. – Authentic Sports Management’s own Miguel Torres, former WEC Bantamweight Champion, will make his return to the Octagon to face rising 135-pound prospect Michael “Mayday” McDonald at UFC 145 in Atlanta, Georgia. Torres has won three of his last four bouts, while McDonald has won seven straight bouts. This will be a pivotal matchup in the bantamweight division and a one of the highly anticipated matchups on the UFC 145 card.
“I’m so happy to be back in the UFC and that they’ve given me such a game opponent like Michael McDonald,” said Torres. “Preparing for this fight, I only have one thought in mind, and that is to finish my opponent at UFC 145 and show the world I am back.”
“I speak for everyone at Authentic Sports Management when I say that we feel honored to represent Miguel Torres, and that we are thrilled for his upcoming fight on April 21 at UFC 145,” said Glenn Robinson, President, Authentic Sports Management. “Miguel is an incredible athlete and we are so proud that he will not only represent our team, but also the UFC, his family, and all the fans who have supported him through and through. Good luck Miguel, we will all be there in Atlanta to cheer you on!”
A native of Hammond, Indiana, Torres began fighting as a professional back in 2000. He started his career with 20 straight victories, finishing his opponent 16 times. After one setback loss, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt continued on another win streak and racking up 17 more wins to his record.
At only 31 years old, Torres has over 40 official fights on his record. He has faced some of the top combatants in the bantamweight division, including Jeff Bedard, Chase Beebe, Yoshiro Maeda, Manny Tapia, Takeya Mizugaki, Brian Bowles, Joseph Benavidez, Charlie Valencia, Antonio Banuelos, and Demetrious Johnson. His win over Beebe garnered Torres the WEC Bantamweight Championship, a title he defended three times, grabbing “Fight of the Night” honors twice during that streak.
Torres’ first fight under the UFC banner was at UFC 126 in February of last year, which he won via unanimous decision. He lost to Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 in May, but got back on the right track against Nick Pace at UFC 139 in November. Now, he’ll face a rising star in McDonald who is 3-0 in the UFC, and is coming off a “Knockout of the Night” performance against Alex Soto at UFC 139.
Torres will appear on the televised portion of the main card of UFC 145, which is scheduled to take place Saturday, April 21 at the Philips Arena. For more information on Torres, visit him at www.torresmartialarts.com and follow on Twitter @migueltorresmma
